Did you know?

The process we use to make our soap is called cold process? A brief description of this process is as follows: take a certain amount of water and combine with a certain amount of sodium hydroxide (lye) This causes a chemical reaction that raises the mixture to temperatures as high as 185 degrees. Then while waiting for the water/lye temperature to cool we mix our oils together by heating them over a low heat. When the lye and the oils are approximately 100 degrees, we mix the two together. That's when the magic starts. The oils and the lye mixture start the saponification process. Between 1-3 hours of mixing the soap will trace. This is the time that we add any fragrances and/or colorants. We then pour the mixture into molds, cover with a towel. The towel helps to keep the mixture from cooling to quickly and slowing down the saponifacation rate. After 24-48 hours, we unmold the soap, and cut it. The soap is then individually inspected to be sure that all dings that may have occured are taken care of. The soap is then placed on a shelf to air dry for a minimum of 3 weeks (this makes for a hard and long lasting bar for you!)
